This image was recorded on digital media using a Canon Digital Rebel xTi camera with a Canon 17-40mm f/4 L lens stopped to f 7.1 and exposed at a speed of 1/160 sec. Photographer Comments: The Festival of Asakusa Shrine dates back to the Edo period. One of the main events consists of people from respective neighborhoods carrying in their local shrines for a purification ceremony at the main temple. It is rumored that many of the men who carry the shrines into the ceremony are members of the yakuza or Japanese mafia. I'm not sure if it's true, but there were some rather tough looking characters in the crowd! |
