| This is a photograph of the 12-foot popcorn sculpture of Albert Einstein at the front of the national Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. The sculpture was created by Robert Berk. This photograph captured in October, 1999 was taken by Jim Epler in the summer in Washington, DC at the National Academy of Sciences. It is cataloged under the terms cities, architecture, art and urban scenes in this photography database. The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak Tri-X 400 black & white film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 28mm f/3.5 lens. Photographer Comments: It was difficult for me to capture the full tonal range in this picture due to the very contrasty lighting conditions. Rather than take the predictable, less interesting picture of the sculpture from the front, I searched for a different viewpoint that would place the statue in relation to another more prominent visual element; this turned out to be the American flag in the middle of the frame emblazoned in sunshine flying stiffly in the brisk, afternoon wind of that October day. |
