What exactly is WebSPIRS?
WebSPIRS was developed by SilverPlatter Information, an information company which publishes reference databases in electronic formats. Libraries and research organizations purchase the rights to search SilverPlatter's databases using software called SPIRS, the SilverPlatter Information Retrieval System. WebSPIRS, a version of this software, allows you to search SilverPlatter's databases. All you need is a subscription (taken care of by U.Va.), a forms-capable browser (such as Netscape), and access to the world wide web.
