DATABASES IN WEBSPIRS

WebSPIRS a tutorial

What is ERIC? (cont.)

Remember when we talked about fields in databases? Well, ERIC has a whole bunch of them! You can search by more than just title, author, and subject...you should definitely familiarize yourself with ERIC's advanced organizational structure, it will come in handy sooner or later. Here, we will briefly mention a few fields you should check out. It is up to you to dig a little more (use the ERIC help section!) to really get the benefits...

We thought you might like to know that...

House

ERIC is a network of 16 subject-specialized clearinghouses, each responsible for collecting literature in its own subject area. Each clearinghouse is identified by a two-letter code, listed in the CH (Clearinghouse) field in the database. Examples of some of these clearinghouses include Higher Education (HE), Information and Technology (IR), Elementary and Early Childhood Education (PS), and Assessment and Evaluation (TM).

Since 1979, each ERIC record has been assigned a three-digit document type code. The Document Type (DT) field contains the three-digit code, as well as a text equivalent. The Document Type Number (DTN) field contains the three-digit code only.

ERIC also offers a document delivery service through the ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS). Availability and pricing information is included in the records in the LV (Level of Availability) , PR (EDRS Price) , and AV (Availability) fields.
