A disturbing image of a dead seal juxtaposed against distant smokestacks from a plant effusing pollution into the atmosphere. This photograph dated September 03, 2006 was taken by Jim Epler during the fall in Monterey, CA at the Moss Landing State Beach. It is cataloged under the terms nature, animals, coastal views, urban scenes, signs & symbols and documentary in this photography database.

The image was exposed on 35mm Fuji Velvia 50 color slide film stock using a Canon EOS Rebel v300 (Ti) camera with a Canon 17-40mm f/4 L lens stopped to f/6.7 and exposed at a speed of 1/90th of a second.

Photographer Comments: I think this disturbing image speaks for itself. I originally passed the subject but returned to snap this photograph because of the way it made me feel.

Additionally, Jim thought of search words that someone might use to locate this picture including the terms coastline, EPA, global warming, greenpeace, environment, carbon monoxide, death, smokestacks, peta, dead animal, pollution, beach, animal rights, greenhouse gases, World Wildlife Fund and carbon emissions, so he included these on this page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this free photograph!
