| A general store near the University of Texas. This photograph was taken by Jim Epler at 5:40 PM on 7/30/2006 in the summer in Austin, TX on Avenue B. It is cataloged under the terms architecture, twilight scenes, townscapes and signs & symbols in this photography database. This image was recorded on digital media using a Canon PowerShot SD200 camera with a lens stopped to f 2.8 and exposed at a speed of 1/60 sec. Photographer Comments: I like this photograph because it has a very "small town USA" feel to it. We were in Austin exploring neighborhood side streets near the University of Texas when I saw this local sandwich shop. It was a warm summer afternoon and you could hear crickets chirping as the sun set and day turned into evening. I like the rustic 7-Up sign and the neon clock in the store window. It takes me back to evenings at baseball camp, or memories of eating raspberry ice cream and Swedish candy fish as a very young boy at Harper's General store near Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Harper's was on Jonestown Road in East Hanover Township (Lebanon County) across the street from what my parents called "the singing bridge," an old cast iron truss bridge that made a "whrrr" sound as you drove across it. I wish I had a photograph of that old bridge and store, as I'm sure they are both long gone by now. |

Additionally, Jim thought of search words that someone might use to locate this picture including the terms Austin, 7-UP, food, grocery, sandwiches, summer, shop, Texas, dusk, neon clock, 7UP and general store, so he included these on this page as a service to himself and others who would like to download this free photograph! |
